Tummy tuck procedures can lead to flatter stomachs

Tummy tuck procedures can give someone a more defined waistline by removing excess skin, and some of the best candidates for this procedure are women who have gone through childbirth.

One should be aware that a tummy tuck is not a weight loss procedure. And while it does involve the removal of certain fat deposits, it is not the same as liposuction. Some surgeons have seen patients of both genders seek a tummy tuck, but women most often opt for the surgery.

"The stress of carrying and bearing children can cause damage to the abdominal area that no amount of diet or exercise can repair. With this straightforward surgery, we can tighten and flatten the abdominal area, ridding it of excess skin and fat deposits, and allowing a woman to regain her pre-baby figure," said plastic surgeon Dr Scot Martin.

Cosmetic surgeons stress that this is a major procedure and patients should be aware of the risks associated with it, as well as what type of recovery time is to be expected.

Like many surgeries, scarring is to be expected, but patients may want to use scar treatment products such as silicone gel sheeting, which may help reduce their appearance.
