Melanoma scar alerts New Zealand man

Spearheading a project known as SCAR: A Mark of Hope, a New Zealand photographer has snapped pictures of 23 New Zealanders living with melanoma skin cancer to help raise awareness about the disease during March, which is Melanoma Awareness Month.

While the photos may serve as a reminder to some about the dangers of the sun, others have melanoma scars on their bodies that remind them every day.

James Jordan looks at his 20-centimeter melanoma scar as a reminder that he's been given a new lease on life, Eastern Courier reports.

Though Jordan's latest biopsy results cleared him of the disease, he still thinks back to the initial scare of recognizing the melanoma scar on his leg.
"I knew about it and was aware of it, but almost made the mistake of thinking it was okay," Jordan told the news source.

He added, "I'm incredibly lucky. I look at life in a different way. It was such a shock when they told me it could kill me."

Patients who are looking to conceal their topical scars may turn to products such as silicone gel sheeting, to hydrate the wounds and minimize their appearance.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19677917-ADNFCR
