Women seeking cheaper cosmetic procedures

Cosmetic surgery is not cheap, but many are finding ways to get their desired look without paying hefty prices. Americans are beginning to look beyond the U.S. for less costly surgeries.

One country that many are flocking to is Lebanon, which has experienced a growing cosmetic tourism industry. According to The Global Post, doctors report that 20 to 40 percent of their patients are tourists who come to have a little nip and tuck out of the watchful eye of their nosy neighbors.

Dr. Roland Tohme, of the Beirut Beauty Clinic, says that one draw for the tourists is the price. Procedures like a rhinoplasty, which can cost anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000 in the U.S., cost about $2,000 in Lebanon.

"It's cheaper here," he told the news source, "And I think we have a level [of quality] that is the same as other places."

There are even travel agencies that book trips for individuals based around plastic surgery procedures. Patients can arrange everything from the operation to their hotel, and even select other tourist activities.

Patients who undergo an elective cosmetic procedure may be confronted with some scarring that is a result of the surgery, but the use of silicone ointment may help reduce those marks over time.
