ABC News reports that some teens, like Caitlin Clemons, have seen loved ones undergo cosmetic procedures and notice how pleased they are with the results. They are now seeking improvements to gain the self-esteem they have long craved.
"Once I saw how happy she was, I knew I could be that happy," Clemons told the news source. "I'll have confidence. It definitely made me want the surgery more. Once my mother got hers and I saw it can be done, it really clicked in my mind that I can do this."
According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, the most popular kind of plastic surgery for teenagers is a nose job. Almost 35,000 teens underwent this procedure in 2009.
Surgery often leaves scarring, but products such as silicone ointments or gel sheeting may be able to reduce the appearance of the scars over time.
