The center has recently invested in a $1.3 million dollar da Vinci robotic surgical system. The da Vinci is operated by a trained surgeon using a 3-D interface to control three robotic arms. Surgeons told The Examiner that the purchase was driven by consumer demand.
"Patients are educated on the latest treatment options," chief operating officer Daniel J. Messina told the news source.
While the system will help surgeons be more precise in various operations, the robot still leaves a scar. But patients truly educated on the latest treatment options will know that scar treatment is available in the form of silicon gel sheeting.
While robotic surgery has gained popularity, it requires training to be used effectively and is expensive to implement. Still, patients are generally happy with the treatment they receive.
There are currently 1,028 da Vinci systems in the United States.
