The organization found that teenagers requested more nonsurgical procedures like laser hair removal and chemical peels in 2009, but rhinoplasty is still the number one procedure among the 18-and-under crowd.
There were 203,308 procedures performed on individuals 18 and under in 2009, which represents only 2 percent of the total number of cosmetic procedures performed that last year.
Along with rhinoplasty, breast reductions, breast corrections, chin augmentation and treatment of gynecomastia, which is excessive breast development in boys, are the most common surgeries performed on teenagers in the United States.
A number of these procedures may leave minimal scarring, but like with any surgery, since incisions still have to be made and that means the chances of scarring as a result is highly likely.
Use of scar treatment products, like silicone gel sheeting, may help reduce the sight of scarring, and they are easy to use and affordable.
