Has cosmetic surgery become the norm?

If one was to look on the cover fashion magazine or tabloids, they may see a headline about the latest advancements in cosmetic surgery or who the latest celebrity is to go under the knife.

The Telegraph raised the question - has plastic surgery become normal in today's society? Everything from fillers like collagen and botox, to more extensive procedures such as breast augmentations and tummy tucks are more openly talked about today than before.

Many plastic surgeons have noticed patients coming in requesting procedures that will shave years off of their appearance, but don't want to look like they've had work done. This often involves doctors using cutting edge techniques that help hide or reduce the appearance of scarring.

Although cosmetic surgery has become popular in the U.S. over the past two decades, there are still risks involved with it. Patients are advised to discuss the pros and cons with their surgeon before making a decision to go under the knife.

Scars that are the result of a surgical procedure may be reduced in appearance with use of silicone gel sheeting or ointment products.
