Male liposuction becoming more popular

Recently, plastic surgeons have reported an uptick in the number of males opting for liposuction and tummy tuck procedures, a surgery typically associated with women. Tummy tucks can leave noticeable scars which can be treated with silicone-based scar treatment products.

The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery recently released statistics that revealed that 40,000 male liposuction procedures were performed in the U.S. last year.

In Boston, Dr. Michael Tantillo is reporting similar findings. His patient base has expanded to include both males and females seeking tummy tucks.

"Men are finding out that liposuction gives them a way to take control of their body shape and look fitter by targeting fat that has more to do with genetics than with their real fitness level," he said.

Whether the patient is male or female, they may awake from surgery to find their liposuction has left them with a slimmer stomach - although perhaps a scarred one.
