Popularity of cosmetic procedures increased in 2009

The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS) recently conducted a survey in which members and physicians were asked about performing cosmetic procedures, The Los Angeles Times reports.

The survey found that more than 17 million cosmetic surgery procedures were conducted in the Unites States in 2009, and that number is expected to rise. The AACS reports that the number is an eight percent increase from 2008.

"With the aging of the baby boomer generation, I don't think we've come close to hitting the ceiling yet. That 17 million is only going to expand," Mark Berman, AACS president, told the news source.

The largest increases in procedures were eyelid lifts, tummy tucks, facelifts and nose jobs.

Individuals who have undergone a cosmetic procedure know that certain surgeries come with long recovery times and even scarring. Though many plastic surgeons might use techniques to hide or minimize the scar, there are still scar treatment products that may assist in the healing process.

Silicone ointments and gels may help in masking scars that are a result of an invasive surgical procedure.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19850237-ADNFCR
