New tummy tuck procedure gives patients another option

When most patients go in for a tummy tuck they have already lost a large amount of weight and are now just removing excess skin. Dr Matthew Schulman has seen cases in which the opposite is true, but has a solution for those who haven't lost the weight quite yet, KSAT 12 reports.

Dr Schulman is performing what is called a smooth tuck. Surgeons remove 2 to 3 liters of fat and then take off the excess skin, but, unlike a normal tummy tuck, they do not cut the muscle.

"Unfortunately, that wasn't the majority of patients. Most of my patients were coming in, and they were 20 to 30 pounds overweight like the majority of Americans," Dr Schulman told the news source.

The recovery time is much less than what a normal tummy tuck would be, and patients can resume their regular activities within a few weeks.

Tummy tucks, along with other surgical procedures, may leave some scarring, but with new scar treatment products like silicone gel sheeting, it may be possible to reduce the appearance of marks left behind from the cosmetic enhancement.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19917302-ADNFCR
