Cosmetic procedure may help fix stretched ear lobes

Ear-stretching may be popular among today's youth, but, like most fads, it is only popular for so long, and individuals who have stretched their ears have often had to live with the large holes they have made for themselves.

MSNBC reports that a new procedure may help repair the stretched out ear lobes. When the ear lobe is stretched to create a hole wider than 6 millimeters, it is unlikely that the hole will shrink back down to normal size when the earplugs are removed.

Dr Brian Glatt is a board-certified plastic surgeon in New Jersey who has seen a number of young people, mostly men, who want the hole repaired.Many patients are seeking a more professional appearance or are joining the military, according to the news source.

He has performed a procedure in which he repairs the hole by reconstructing the entire ear lobe. The result is a closed hole and a small scar where the ear lobe was reconnected.

Cosmetic procedures may produce remarkable improvements in one's appearance, but they may also leave a scar behind as a result.
