Young girl with heart condition still thriving
Baylee Enrico was born with a congenital heart condition, a hole in the bottom of her heart, a missing valve and a narrowed aortic arch, but she hasn't let that stop her from living the life of a normal teenager, The Idaho Statesman reports.
Enrico has undergone two open heart surgeries and now has a 10-inch scar running down the middle of her chest, a reminder of what she has been through.
The 14-year-old, along with her mother Melanie, have made a point of celebrating Christmas Eve at the pediatric intensive care unit of St. Luke's Regional Medical Center where she was born. They help provide comfort to other parents who have a child that may have a congenital heart condition.
"By them seeing Baylee, [families can know] that their little one laying in the bed - that there's hope. We've made it 14 years," her mother told the news source.
Enrico will have to undergo a third surgery in the future, where she will select a final valve that she will live with for the rest of her life.
Surgical procedures may some times leave a scar, but scar treatment products like silicone ointment may help diminish the appearance of the mark.
