Young girl scarred after mauling
Limara Holmes was playing on a swing set with her friend when a large dog charged at her and bit her leg three times before its owner came to restrain it, This Is Wiltshire reports.
The little girl was taken to the hospital, where doctors cleaned her injuries, but did not close the wounds right away for fear of infection.
"They had to leave it open for four days in case of infection and then we went back to have the 21 stitches. The stitches have burst so she will definitely have scarring and she's scared stiff of dogs," her mother Helen told the news source.
The owner of the dog had to pay a fine and is required to keep his pet on a leash when out in public, a verdict with which the child's mother is not too pleased. She wants a harsher penalty and has written the courts about her displeasure, according to the news provider.
Bites from animals may leave marks and scars, but products that have been developed for scar treatment may help with healing the skin.
Silicone gel sheeting may help reduce the appearance of scars on visible parts of the body.
