Woman scarred in acid attack
Esperanza Medina suffered full-thickness chemical burns to 25 percent on her body when she had sulfuric acid thrown on her outside of her home two years ago.
NBC Chicago reports that Ofelia Garcia and Maria Olvera Garcia intimidated a teenager into perpetrating the act because they were upset that Medina had moved in with a man they had previously been involved with, and that Medina let out horrific screams when hit with the acid.
The two women are now on trial where they are charged with three counts of planning a heinous battery, two counts of armed robbery, six counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and three counts of aggravated battery.
Medina says that she is ready to face the people who have disfigured her, and that she doing much better now.
"Emotionally I am fine," Medina said. "A little hurt still, but physically a lot better."
Scar treatment products like silicone gel sheeting and ointment may help reduce the appearance of scars that are the result of an accident or surgical procedure.
