Woman left scarred after knife attack
A young man was recently sentenced to five years in prison after attacking his ex-girlfriend with a knife, leaving the young woman permanently scarred.
The Herald reports that Rodney Byrne, 25, became enraged and pulled a knife on his former girlfriend, and as she struggled to get away he cut her neck, leaving a superficial wound, and then stabbed her in the arm. He fled the scene and a neighbor came to her aid. She required 36 stitches to her neck and 12 for arm.
"This woman is very traumatized and has been left with permanent scarring in a very visible location," Judge Katherine Delahunt said to Byrne as she handed down her ruling.
Byrne says that he is remorseful for what he has done and can't believe that he acted in such a manner. The woman now has a six inch scar running down the front of her neck.
Scar treatment products such as silicone gel sheeting and ointment may help reduce superficial scars that are the result of an accident or attack when used over time.
