Woman gets tattoos to cover burn scars
Nicola Privett was badly scarred when she was younger after a pot of scalding water fell on her, and she spent most of her life covering her scars.
The Gloucestershire Echo reports that Privett decided to get a tattoo to help regain confidence and not be afraid to show her skin while out in public. She has spent most of her adult life covered up, fearing what people may think or say about her appearance, but now that she has her tattoo she is ready to face the world.
"Having one has changed me a lot. Before, I was very self-conscious about my burns, but now I know that if people are looking at me it's because they have seen the tattoo," she told the news source.
Privett now a member of a swimming and water aerobics club and is much more confident about showing her body, thanks to her tattoo.
"When it comes to tattooing over scars it gives clients more self-confidence especially if they have low self-esteem. People look more at the tattoo and less at the scar," her tattoo artist Paul Scarrott told the news provider.
The use of silicone gel sheeting may also reduce the appearance of marks or scars incurred during an accident.
