Bert Ward was shot by a Japanese sniper during World War II and he still bears the bullet scar on his head today.

The Hills and Valley Messenger reports that 91-year-old Ward recalls being sent to New Guinea during the war where he and members of the 2/27th Australian Imperial Force Battalion fought for their lives in the jungle of the country.

"I got a bullet in the brain,"he told the news source. "I crawled out on my hands and elbows to the regimental aid post. I lost my nice, blond, curly locks."

Ward was temporarily paralyzed after being struck by the bullet, effectively ending his career as a soldier. He underwent brain surgery and was sent back home to Australia.

He is now getting ready to celebrate Remembrance Day in Australia and share his story with others about his experience.

Those who have suffered scarring as the result of a surgical procedure or accident may want to use silicone ointment or gel sheeting, which may help diminish the appearance of the mark.
