James de Vries was waiting to catch a train in Brisbane, Australia, when he was randomly attacked and stabbed in the abdomen, The Courier Mail reports.

The 18-year-old almost bled to death, but was rushed to the hospital, where he underwent several operations and blood transfusions that helped to save his life, the news provider reports.

"It's just sad when you get visited by an 80-year-old grandparent who's in better physical condition than you," he told the news source.

He now has a scar that stretches from his sternum to his pelvic bone, and the knife wound is still healing. His mother says his recovery is moving along well. He has some issues eating, but is able to manage small portions.

The man responsible for the attack has been charged with attempted murder and will face trial in September.

There are new scar treatment products like silicone gel sheeting that may help diminish the appearance of scars that are the result of a surgical procedure or accident.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19926286-ADNFCR
