Teen testifies to being attacked by gang
James Hopkins III, 17, recently testified that he was attacked by members of the Broderick Boys street gang, and was hit in the head with a hammer, The Sacramento Bee reports.
Hopkins was called to the stand to provide testimony regarding a case involving whether or not the street gang is a public nuisance. Prosecutors had been relying mainly on police testimony, but the judge wanted to hear from others in the community.
The attack on Hopkins occurred after he had gone to confront one of the gang members about an altercation that took place with his younger brother. As he arrived, several cars pulled up, and 10 young men jumped out and chased after Hopkins.
One man struck Hopkins in the head several times with a hammer, which resulted in a scar over his eye.
Physical attacks and glassings often leave victims with permanent marks, but scar treatment products like silicone ointment may help diminish the appearance of blemishes.
