Teen has scar after back surgery
Garrett Baffoni suffered a serious fall when snowboarding, causing him to shatter three vertebrae. However, doctors were able to perform surgery and help the teen get back on his feet, The Lodi News-Sentinel reports.
Baffoni was with a friend snowboarding when he hit a patch of ice during a jump, causing him to land on his head. Luckily, his helmet protected him from a serious brain injury, the news source reports.
Doctors replaced the broken discs with new vertebrae that were donated. The teen is now on the road to recovery, swimming, biking and able to exercise.
Baffoni has a 12-inch scar down the center of his back, a reminder of the ordeal he has been through.
Individuals who have undergone a surgical procedure may be left with a scar as a result. Luckily, there have been advancements in scar treatment.
Silicone gel sheeting and ointments may help reduce the appearance of scars that are the result of surgery or sports injuries.
