Softball player ready to return to the game after thyroid cancer treatment
Kelly Majam is looking forward to getting back out on the field with her fellow softball players after going through treatment for thyroid cancer, The Star Advertiser reports.
Majam felt some discomfort in her throat when she would swallow, and after returning home from a softball tournament she went to her family doctor to be examined. She was referred to a specialist and was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma. Luckily it was caught in its early stages and she had surgery to remove the lump from her throat, according to the news provider.
She now has a 2-inch scar across the base of her throat, but other than that she has exhibited a positive attitude and is on track to participate in the upcoming Spring season of her favorite pastime.
"I was really hoping this wouldn't keep me from playing. So I'm really glad I will be able to play in the spring," she told the news source.
Sometimes surgical procedures may leave a scar, but there are new scar treatment products like silicone ointments and gels that may help diminish the overall look of the blemish.
