Scars are a mark of survival for one woman
Georgie Hallock has experienced several medical issues over the past year, but she hasn't let that prevent her from enjoying life.
The Daily News Tribune reports that the 66-year-old breast cancer survivor, who has endured intense radiation treatments, is cancer-free and opening up about what it felt like to battle the disease.
She currently had a scar on her abdomen marking where surgeons had to make an incision to remove cancerous tissue. She also has four tiny blue dots tattooed on her, marking where radiation beams would align when she went for her treatment every week.
Following the surgery to remove the cancerous tissue, she developed a staph infection that progressively got worse, and doctors had to perform surgery again to clean out the wound.
Hallock advises others to remain vigilant when it comes to their breast health, noting that many women may not routinely check for lumps in their breast tissue.
Scars that may be the result of a surgical procedure or accident may be treated with silicone gel sheeting or ointment which may help reduce the appearance of the marks.
