Police officer shot, left scarred
Officer Robert Salerno responded to a domestic dispute this past March and was shot three time at close range. Today he is anxious to get back to work.
The New York Daily News reports that Salerno spent several months recovering from his injuries. However, he was determined not to let what happened to him affect his life, as he loved being a police officer.
"There was no time to react - he had a firearm out and shot me in the chest. ...I fired two shots. He shot me in my left hip, and I went crashing to the ground. I couldn't move my right leg. I knew I had to survive," he told the news source.
One of the bullets that struck Salerno became lodged in his bullet-proof vest, leaving him scarred on his chest. He had to recover from a paralyzed right leg, which led to months of physical therapy.
Luckily, there are products such as silicone gel sheeting or ointment that may help diminish the appearance of scars that are the result of an accident or surgical procedure.
