Vicki LaRocco has filed a lawsuit against a McDonald's in Schiller Park, Illinois, claiming the restaurant served her child hot chocolate that was too hot for consumption, The Chicago Sun-Times reports.

LaRocco claims that, in April 2009, the fast-food chain served her daughter hot chocolate and that the temperature of the beverage was above the level suitable for consumption by children. She also suggests the workers failed to secure the lid tightly enough.

"Her 10-year-old daughter now has a serious scar resulting from a second- and third-degree burn," LaRocco's attorney Eric Krumdick told the news source.

She is seeking $50,000 to cover medical bills and also for pain and suffering that her daughter has endured.

The physical and emotional trauma experienced from a burn may be difficult depending on the severity of the wound. Burn scars may be painful as the skin heals and begins to tighten, but new scar treatment products may be able to help the process.

Silicone gel sheeting and ointment may help diminish the appearance of the of scarring that is the result of an accident or surgical procedure.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19933537-ADNFCR
