Increase in cosmetic surgery a good sign of the economy
Electing to undergo a cosmetic procedure is a decision that many people feel is personal and costly, but some have found ways to finance their desire for a few improvements, even in the current economic climate.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that some individuals who paid for expensive procedures more than a decade ago are now treating themselves to $1,500 facial fillers to help keep up their appearance.
Many plastic surgeons have reported a noticed increase in nose jobs, botox, breast augmentation procedures and chemical peels among patients after a three-year decline due to the abysmal economy.
"We saw one of the biggest pullbacks in consumer spending and confidence in 50 years," Wells Fargo senior economist Scott Anderson told the news source. "So the fact that this demand [for elective surgery] might be coming back is the first sign that the consumer is starting to come out of its deep freeze."
Cosmetic procedures can help improve one's appearance, but may also leaving scarring. Those who want to lessen the appearance of these marks may want to use silicone ointment or gel sheeting to remedy the situation.
