Two years ago, Devin Barnhart was in a fire that resulted in burns that covered over 75 percent of his body. However, he has since recovered and spoke to The Denver Channel about his progress.

Barnhart got the burns while attempting to save his friends from a house fire. According to the new source, he and Jeremy McCarroll escaped from the fire, but went back inside to save their other friends.

"Unfortunately, he perished along with our other two loving friends, and I barely made it out myself," Barnhart said of McCarroll, to the media outlet.

Barnhart had to undergo four months of skin grafts and two dozen medical procedures at the University of Colorado Hospital.

My friends "were robbed at such as young age, and that's been my biggest determination to succeed," he told the news provider.

According to BurnSurvivor.com, between 1994 and 1998, an average of 4,400 Americans lost their lives and another 25,100 were injured annually as the result of fire.

Burn scar victims may find benefits in the use of silicone gel sheeting, which may help reduce the appearance of the marks over time.
