In recent months, a fire nearly burned down a building where many families lived. Arianna Fedroff, one of the children in the fire, has since made an excellent recovery, according to Syracuse.com.

Doctors originally gave the girl a 20 percent chance of surviving. However, although Fedroff had facial and body burns as well as other disfiguring injuries that resulted in scarring, she was able to recover, according to the news source,

In order to provide holiday fun for Fedroff and other child burn survivors, firefighters and the University Hospital's Clark Burn Center recently held a sleepover party.

"It's the one day these kids can forget about their scars. They're all the same for one day," Kelly Reed, a nurse at the burn unit, told the news source.

During the party, the children played games, rode in firetrucks and sang Christmas carols.

According to BurnSurvivor.com, there are approximately 10,000 pediatric burn injuries reported in the U.S. each year.
To reduce the appearance of scars, children who have suffered from burns may benefit from applying silicone gel sheeting.
