Ryan Simpson put his life on the line to help rescue people from a burning building, and although he is now dealing with painful burn scars, he remains positive.

The Banffshire Journal reports that Simpson was awaken by a noise and realized that the building he was in was on fire. He had exited the building with his arm on fire, but was determined to help those who hasn't escaped. He ran back in twice more to help others out.

Simpson suffered burns to his hands, arms, back and shoulders. He spent six weeks in the hospital and is now undergoing therapy to help his hands and arms. Although he has already had five skin grafts, he still needs to undergo a few more surgeries.

He says that he feels lucky to be alive and that he is ready to try and regain his life. His childhood friends have been helping him reclaim some sense of normalcy as they recently raised money for him to help pay for the belongings he lost in the blaze.

Scar treatment products such as silicone gel sheeting may help reduce the appearance of burn scars and other marks that are the result of an accident or surgery.
