Basketball star Aubrey Coleman turns heads with skills on the court and scar on his neck
Every year, millions of people use scar treatments like silicone gel sheeting to reduce the appearance of scars and slow the development of keloids. Unfortunately for up-and-coming basketball star Aubrey Coleman he's just as known for the surgery scar on his neck as for his impressive performance on the court.
The 6'4" Senior All-Conference USA guard, who has been nicknamed "the Donk," established himself as a player to watch this year by leading the nation in scoring with 25.6 points per game and leading the Houston Cougars to a spot in the first round of the March Madness tournament.
Though the team would fall short of their championship goal, more press was given to the perforated scar on Coleman's neck than to his performance in the game.
Coming from a family with a poor medical history, Coleman developed an operatable abscess on his neck when was a middle schooler. After a successful surgery to remove the infection, Coleman developed a buildup of keloid scar tissue from his recovery.
The scar does not affect his play on the court, as the 22-year-old has earned the Conference USA Rookie of the week award five times and the player of the week award twice.
