Athlete makes remarkable recovery after being hit by car
Alex Lee is a member of the University of Maryland's soccer team, but his participation in the upcoming season was in question after he was hit by a car last fall, The Washington Post reports.
Lee was crossing a busy street when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle. He hit the windshield and went flying through the air before landing head first on the ground.
His friends rushed to his side and tried to help him maintain consciousness while waiting for paramedics. He was taken to the hospital, where emergency surgery was performed on his skull to remove a blood cot.
Today, Lee has a crescent-shaped scar that runs along the right side of his head from his crown to his earlobe. Thirty-three staples were needed to close the incision.
He has since recovered and is now preparing for the team's home opener against Michigan State early next month.
The appearance of scars may be reduced with the use of scar treatment products like silicone gel sheeting or ointment.
