Woman scarred by acid attack lives out dream as a model

In 2008, Katie Piper had split up with her boyfriend and was preparing for a career as a model. However, those dreams were cut short when her infuriated ex hired an accomplice to throw sulfuric acid into her face, according to The Daily Mail.

Piper was rushed to the hospital, where medics applied tap water to the wounds for 10 hours in an attempt to neutralize the acid.

"After the attack I didn't know who I was any more. My career and dreams were gone. I was psychologically and physically scarred," she told the news provider.

Slowly but surely, Piper started to regain her confidence. Plastic surgery helped minimize the appearance of her scars and she recently posed as a model for a fashion magazine.

Piper also started The Katie Piper Foundation, which is meant to help women who are also victims of acid attacks. The goal is to find effective scar treatments that will help individuals lead healthy, normal lives.

Applying silicone gel sheeting to scars can also make the marks fade and disappear, which can help those who have suffered wounds from a traumatic event.
