Star soccer player Charlie Davies may seek scar treatment

When U.S. soccer player Charlie Davies was pulled from a wrecked car on October 13, 2009, he had two broken bones in his leg, a broken elbow, facial fractures and scars covering his body. But less than four months later, the athlete is returning to his old form.

Davies, a 23-year-old who has played in a French soccer league and appeared on the U.S. Men's national team, has already begun jogging and working on agility drills, ESPN.com reports.

"Charlie is pretty much light years ahead of where anybody would tell you he should be," said Jim Hashimoto, a former U.S. national team trainer.

He added, " It's still going to be a long [recovery], but to see his progress is pretty amazing."

A surgical procedure to repair the soccer star's torn bladder has left a foot-long scar on his stomach and facial reconstructive surgery left an ear to ear scar over the top of his head.

As Davies continues to rehabilitate, he and doctors may choose to use scar treatment techniques like silicone gel sheeting, in which thick scar formation following a surgery or injury can be prevented by applying 3 to 4 inch silicone sheets to the affected area.
