Pop star Seal might have benefitted from silicone ointment
Throughout the years, the London-born R&B singer Seal has been one of the most prolific and successful performers in the world. Yet despite millions of albums sold, a happy and lasting marriage with German supermodel Heidi Klum and charitable work across the globe, the singer is still largely known for his severe facial scars.
As a child, the singer - whose real name is Seal Henry Olusegun Olumide Adeola Samuel - was diagnosed with discoid lupus erythematosis, a debilitating and potentially fatal disease of connective tissue that often causes sores or lesions on the skin and scalp.
The singer underwent a number of surgeries to correct the condition as a teenager, with doctors removing large segments of muscle tissue from his face, leaving lasting scars that remain to this day. In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine, the singer declared that though he has come to embrace his new appearance, the scars had prompted bouts of depression when he was younger.
Patients with facial scars can improve their self esteem and reduce the appearance of these disfiguring marks through the use of scar treatments like silicone ointment.
