Hollywood star Rourke's scars still healing
After a checkered past, famous actor Mickey Rourke is back on top with a starring role in the upcoming "Iron Man 2." But he didn't always have the Hollywood face he has now: after undergoing plastic surgery, his face was covered in scars that wouldn't heal.
Now, Rourke could use silicone-based products such as gel sheeting or ointments to help cover his scars. But according to the UK's Daily Mail, Rourke's face was a "mess" after surgery.
In 1991, Rourke stepped away from the limelight to pursue a boxing career. His time in the ring left him with a broken nose and cheekbone that required surgery to repair.
"I had to have cartilage taken from my ear to rebuild my nose and a couple of operations to scrape out the cartilage because the scar tissue wasn't healing properly," he told the news source.
Looking at Rourke now, those scars aren't evident. Many Americans use products like silicone gel sheeting to mask the aftereffects of surgery.
Rourke's return to Hollywood came with his turn in 2008's "The Wrestler." Since then, his career has taken off again, culminating with his starring role in the upcoming blockbuster "Iron Man 2."
