Four-year-old suffers permanent facial scars from dog attack
Four-year-old Chaya Powell was attacked by a husky belonging to her mother's former stepfather, South Wales Argus reports. Her eyelid was ripped, her lip was damaged and her face was scratched down to the bone from the incident.
According to her mother, Sian James, the two were preparing to walk the dog when it leapt forward and began attacking the little girl. James said that she kicked the dog repeatedly, forcing it to drop the child, and took her daughter to the hospital.
The doctors said that Chaya needed at least four weeks off from school to recover and that she was lucky not to lose sight in her eye. However, the incident has left her with permanent facial scars.
The dog was not euthanized, as the incident had taken place on private property.
"If it had happened on the street outside, they probably would have destroyed it," James said, quoted by the news source. "The laws should be changed."
DogsBite.org reports that the breeds most responsible for serious injury and death include pitbulls, rottweilers and presa canarios.
Those who are left with facial scars from a dog attack may benefit from the use of silicone ointment to reduce the appearance of their wounds.
