Facial surgery popular among those in the job market
New data is showing that many people are turning to facial surgery, believing that an improved appearance will increase their chances in the job market. Many studies have shown that appearance factors in to hiring practices.
Yet scars that can sometimes result from surgeries are considered unsightly, especially on the face. Silicone-based scar treatment products have been clinically proven to diminish such scars.
In North Dakota, several plastic surgery centers are seeing an influx of patients looking to get an edge in the workplace, according to the Daily Globe. Dr. Susan Mathison of the Catalyst Medical Center told the news source that older job candidates feel they need to look younger to compete against other employees.
Data from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons backs up that claim. Thirteen percent of women surveyed said they are considering surgery specifically to compete in the workplace, and three percent have already had a procedure. But 73 percent agreed that appearance and youth plays a big part in the workplace.
Visible scars can mar one's appearance and may affect confidence and others' perceptions at work. Silicone gel sheeting is a scar treatment method that greatly reduces the appearance of scars.
