Facelift may help patients regain youthful appearance

Although the fountain of youth has yet to be discovered, there are cosmetic procedures that may help patients retain some of their youthful looks as they begin to age.

As individuals begin to age they may develop crow's feet around their eyes and their skin may begin to sag, leaving them with a tired look. Luckily for those who are seeking to hold onto that youthful glow, there are new facelift procedures that may help shave a few years off of their appearance.

Facelifts may help tighten facial muscles, repair or remove sagging skin and help revive fresh-faced looks. Of course, with any cosmetic procedure, patients should be aware of the pros and cons that come with going under the knife.

Some individuals may experience scarring around where incisions were made, as well as possibly losing sensation in those areas after surgery. They may also experience skin discoloration and possible loss of nerve control.

Experts say that many side effects are only temporary and go away after a few months, but scars may leave a permanent mark.

Silicone ointment may help reduce the appearance of the scarring with over time if applied to specific areas.
