College student wounded by metal bicycle lock

A college student was recently left with a permanent scar on his forehead after being hit with a metal bicycle lock, according to the Daily Echo.

Christopher Caldwell, who was out walking with friends, received a blow to the head from Niall Rafferty, who drunkenly inflicted a facial wound on the passerby.

Court officials later learned that Rafferty had just come from another violent confrontation at a nearby nightclub, where he punched another man, who was left with a cut lip and a loosened tooth.

Rafferty was charged with two counts of causing bodily harm. According to officials, he came very close to an immediate prison sentence but instead received a six-month suspended term with 12 months' supervision. He was ordered to pay fines to both Caldwell and the man he had injured at the bar.

According to AtHealth.com, alcohol consumption is often linked to violent or aggressive behavior. An estimated 37 percent of assault offenders were drinking at the time of their offense.

Those who sustain facial scars from such incidents may benefit from the use of silicone ointment, which can help reduce the appearance of these unsightly marks.
