3-D software shows patients what they'll look like after plastic surgery
A plastic surgeon in Delray Beach, Florida, is using new 3-D software to show patients the effects of their plastic surgery before going under the knife. The software does not account for the common scars that occur after facial surgery, which can be treated with the use of silicone gel sheeting.
The software, already widely used for breast augmentation surgery, is the only one of its kind in the eastern United States, according to claims made by Dr. Gregory Albert to WPBF 25 News.
Dubbed "Axis 3," the software was developed in Ireland and photographs the patients' face with six cameras. The face appears on screen, which is then adjusted to account for what type of plastic surgery the patient is planning to get. This way, patients can see what they'll look like before deciding on plastic surgery.
Albert said that the software gives patients realistic expectations for their plastic surgery.
However, patients should realize that surgery scars may affect their appearance beyond what the software shows. Scars left over from surgery can be visibly reduced with the use of silicone-based products such as ointments or gels.
