NYC chef recounts car accident that left her with a facial scar

A New York City chef recently opened up about the reddish scar running down her face, which she sustained during a car accident, according to the New York Times. Gabrielle Hamilton, 45, has been running Prune, a restaurant on East First Street, since 1999. That same year, when she was spending a weekend in Michigan, she lost control of her car in the midst of a thick fog. "I totally spun out and I wasn't wearing a seat belt," she told the news source. "On the way back in, I ripped open my face." Her head had gone through the windshield before being yanked back inside, leaving her with a permanent scar on the left side of her face. Fortunately, she survived the accident and has returned to duties at her restaurant, penning on a book about her cooking experiences on the side. According to Car Accident Statistics, more than six million car crashes are reported each year in the U.S. and are estimated to cost more than $230 billion. Scars that are sustained from auto accidents may be addressed with silicone ointment, which has been shown to be an effective method of reducing these marks.
