Choosing a cesarean section to deliver a child

For a number of medical reasons, some women have a cesarean section instead of a traditional vaginal birth.

The procedure involves incisions being made into the mother's abdomen and uterus, EssentialBaby.com.au reports. And, though it is routine, a c-section is a major form of surgery that comes with risks and complications.

There are three types of c-sections: Elective, planned, or emergency. Women who choose an elective c-section are doing so without a legitimate medical need.

Planned procedures are done when it is determined before the mother goes into labor that it would be best for both the mother and the child's health. Hypertension and diabetes are conditions that may prompt a doctor to suggest an expectant motherschedule a planned c-section, the news source reports.

Emergency c-sections are done after labor has begun and complications arise.

There is also the issue of scarring. The procedure often leaves a visible scar along the patients' abdomen.

Silicone ointments are scar treatment products that may help reduce the appearance of c-sections scars.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19932194-ADNFCR
