Neal Collins is an eighth grade student who has endured some trying moments over the last three years as he has been dealing burn scars that are the result of an accident that occurred at his home.

The Gadsden Times reports that the young boy was home one day while his brother and a friend were outside playing with gasoline. The two of them filled a ball with the flammable liquid and lit it, and as Collins exited the home the ball exploded, leaving him with second and third degree burns.

Doctors sent Collins home after seven days in the hospital only because he lived so close to the facility, but he still had to travel back every day to have the skin cleaned and re-bandaged.

"It was every day for a week," his mother Alice Collins told the news provider. "It then went to every other day, and at the end of June they were thinking about doing a skin graft. But his doctor decided not to do the [it]."

Silicone gel sheeting may help diminish the appearance of burn scars over time with continued use.
