Woman is scarred and unable to sleep after violent knife attack
A knife attack has left one Snowtown, Australia, woman both physically and emotionally scarred, according to ABC News Australia.
Janet Teague was attacked by 43-year-old Demal Behari in April 2009. Her assailant, who had been diagnosed with schizophrenia, was charged with three counts of attempted murder. However, he has been deemed unfit to stand trial at the South Australian Supreme Court.
Beharis has been committed to psychiatric detention by Justice Chris Kourakis.
Teague confessed that the trauma she experienced has rendered her weak, depressed and unable to sleep well. The incident left her with a permanent scar on her neck that she says is a constant reminder of the experience, the news source reports.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, approximately 4.3 million nonfatal violent victimizations of people over the age of 12 occurred in 2009. These violent crimes were experienced by about 17 in every 1,000 people.
A topical treatment such as silicone ointment may enable individuals who have sustained scars to lessen the appearance of these marks.
