Unprovoked attack leaves UK man with permanent facial scars
A Plymouth, UK, man has sustained permanent facial scars after an unprovoked attack from a bad-tempered pair of brothers, This is Plymouth reports.
The unnamed victim was walking past Grant and Mark Barker while talking on his cell phone. One brother, who was angry after having been denied cigarettes in a shop, knocked the man to the ground. The other repeatedly punched the victim in the face while wearing heavy gold rings.
Unable to call for help, the man collapsed and was rushed to a local hospital. The brothers, who tried to hail a taxi, were arrested at the scene after Mark Barker was found to have blood on his sleeves and rings. Both were sent to jail after admitting to assault causing actual bodily harm.
"This was a nasty case of violence in the street, picking on a man on his own and then assaulting him for your own pleasure," said Judge Francis Gilbert, who presided over the case, quoted by the news source.
According to Project America, the rate of violent and property crimes has seen a downward trend in the past decade.
