Two children attacked by pit bulls in Omaha, Nebraska
Twelve-year-old Deja Briggs stepped off the bus after school and started to walk to his Omaha, Nebraska, home when two loose pit bull mixes attacked him and a classmate, according to Action 3 News.
"I felt helpless," he told the news provider. "I felt pain and I was scared."
Both children were seriously injured by the attack, which may have proved fatal if a man hadn't stopped to rescue them by shooting a gun into the air and scaring the animals away.
The owner of the dogs, Shara Dunbar, was cited for harboring dangerous animals and not properly restraining them.
DogsBite.org reports that, although pit bulls only make 5 percent of the U.S. dog population, 44 percent of attacks were attributed to the breed in 2009. In 2009, 63 percent of those bitten by dogs were children aged 11 and under.
In addition to being traumatic events, dog attacks can leave scars that can be a reminder of the injury. Those who are looking for a way for effective scar removal may want to apply silicone gel sheeting to the area, which can make the marks disappear.
