Severe car crash puts couple's wedding on hold
A New Zealand couple who were set to marry have had to cancel their wedding plans due to sustaining serious injuries in a four-car accident, the NZ Herald reports.
Gaz Brown and Lucia Tigri were on their way to visit family friends when another car collided into theirs on the highway. Brown, who had thrown himself in front of his fiancee to protect her from the impact, was airlifted to the hospital, while she was taken in an ambulance. Both suffered damaged bowels and broken vertebrae, but Brown also had an injured kidney, fractured sternum and a displaced collarbone.
"The surgeons operated on us one after the other. I had double bowel surgery that took over three hours," Brown told the news source. "We've got matching scars on our stomachs. There is no way this marriage will break up."
Both Brown and Tigri were discharged from the hospital after spending a week in intensive care. They are both expected to make a full recovery, although Tigri still requires a wheelchair.
According to the Ministry of Transport, a total of 7,812 drivers have been seriously injured as a result of a car crash on New Zealand roads.
Silicone ointment may be a useful way for these individuals to reduce the appearance of their scars.
