A Lynbrook, New York, man has been convicted of second-degree assault and criminal possession of a weapon for slashing a security guard in the face with a sharp object, East Meadow Patch reports.

Thomas King, who recently turned 21, was underage at the time and had not been allowed into the bar of RC Dugan's, a restaurant in East Meadow. When security guards attempted to escort him into the parking lot, King slashed one of them in the head, face and neck. He was arrested by Nassau County police.

"This brutally violent attack has left the victim permanently scarred, and for that this defendant will face years in a prison cell," said district attorney Kathleen Rice, quoted by the news source.

King's sentence - which could be imprisonment for up to seven years - will be determined on June 1.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, an estimated 4.3 million nonfatal violent victimizations occurred in 2009.

Those who have been left with scars from such incidents may choose silicone gel sheeting as a method of scar treatment.
