The town of Terrebonne Parish, Louisiana, is considering a new law that would require dog owners to muzzle their animals, following two recent attacks that left a man and a boy with permanent scars, according to WWLTV Eyewitness News.

Postal worker Benny Rhodes, 55, required more than a dozen stitches on his right calf and left knee after being bitten by a dog while delivering mail. Seven months later, despite the fact that the scar healing process is almost complete, Rhodes still wakes up in a cold sweat over the incident.

Meanwhile, 4-year-old Christian Silver sustained a facial scar after being attacked by a neighbor's pit bull last month.

These incidents have led the Terrebonne Parish Council to discuss a law that would require owners to obtain insurance on their dogs.

Dog Bite Law reports that approximately 4.7 million dog bites are reported in the U.S. each year.

Victims who are scarred by such attacks may consider the use of silicone gel sheeting to lessen the appearance of these marks.
