A surgery team from the Children's Hospital & Research Center in Oakland is heading to Haiti to assist with plastic and reconstructive surgeries. With the emergency aspect of Haiti's violent earthquakes stabilized, work has begun on restoring Haitian patients who may be suffering from lingering injuries. Some trauma injuries leave scars, which can be reduced with the use of silicone gel sheeting.

Fourteen medical professionals, including plastic surgeons, nurses, and an anesthesiologist, will leave for Haiti. The team is specialized in pediatrics, and most of the doctors will be stationed at Adventist Hospital, where over half the patients are children, according to the Oakland Tribune.

"Major acute general trauma and orthopedic injuries have been replaced by the aftermath of the initial injuries, including poorly healed and infected wounds," team coordinator Arup Roy-Burman told the news source.

Patients who suffered lacerations or underwent surgery may now be dealing with scars. Scars are not only unsightly, but serve as a constant reminder of the tragedy suffered by Haitians during the disastrous earthquakes.

Scars from these types of injuries can be visibly reduced through the use of silicone-based scar treatment products.ADNFCR-3015-ID-19807854-ADNFCR
