Gina Russo was with her friend Fred Crisostomi on that fateful night of February 20, 2003, when they attended a show at The Station nightclub in Warwick, Rhode Island, where things quickly turned dangerous.

A fire erupted in the club, prompting many to rush for the exits, but as The Worcester Telegram & Gazette reports, many lost their lives in the horrible accident, including Mr. Crisostomi.

Russo suffered burns on more than 50 percent of her body as she tried escaping the burning building. Part of her scalp was so badly burned that she can no longer grow hair, and she underwent several procedures to save her hands from being amputated. She now wears a wig when out in public to cover her scars.

"Now I wear long hair to cover the scars on my neck. I'm very uncomfortable in it because I don't like things on my neck. When I come in the house, the wig comes off and a bandana comes on," she told the news source.

Russo has written a book along with the help of Paul Lonardo chronicling her survival and her recovery from the events of the fire.

Burn survivors may be looking for scar treatment products to help with their marks. They may want to use silicone gel sheeting, which may help reduce the appearance of the scars.
